Jesus was excited about His conversation with the “Woman at the Well” and we see what “floats (His) boat”. Jesus loves for the lost and forsaken to be found.

Gospel According to John 4:27-42
What Jesus Gets Excited About
Transcript
00:00:00 Robert
We were going to. We typically do the Lord’s supper on the 1st Sunday of the week, but our bread
makers for the week have a sick child, so we’re going to do Lord’s supper next week, but I’m excited that
you’re here today.
00:00:13 Robert
I think we we missed.
00:00:15 Robert
I thought somebody else walked in that I thought.
00:00:16 Robert
I saw and I.
00:00:17 Robert
Don’t see them now, actually, not you.
00:00:21 Robert
It was someone else, I thought, but maybe I was just completely wrong.
00:00:25 Robert
I did see you.
00:00:26 Robert
Walk yet.
00:00:29 Robert
But you’re not who never mind.
00:00:30 Robert
This has nothing to do with her.
00:00:31 Robert
Let’s talk about the sermon because as Eric says, I’m the only preacher he knows that can can derail my
own sermon, so I haven’t even started yet.
00:00:43 Robert
I derail myself better than anyone else.
00:00:45 Robert
Here’s what I can tell you.
00:00:46 Robert
I’m so excited that you’re here today.
00:00:48 Robert
I am just pumped that you were here and we’re going to talk about what I think gets Jesus excited and.
00:00:57 Robert
So what I want you to think about before we even read.
00:00:59 Robert
The scripture is just something.
00:01:02 Robert
That you get giddy about.
00:01:05 Robert
Like you know.
00:01:06 Robert
That thing that people say don’t give them talking about this because if they start talking about this,
they’re never going to shut up about it.
00:01:15 Robert
OK, so my kids.
00:01:17 Robert
For me it’s the the socio socio economic theory of signaling.
00:01:24 Robert
I can just go on and on and on about it if you want to know more about it you should read this
economist.
00:01:29 Robert
Named John list.
00:01:30 Robert
He is the.
00:01:31 Robert
Lead economist for Walmart.
00:01:32 Robert
Now he was the lead economist for Lyft.
00:01:34 Robert
Before that he was the lead economist for Uber.
00:01:36 Robert
Before that, it’s fascinating stuff.
00:01:38 Robert
If you can’t tell, I want to.
00:01:39 Robert
Start talking about it right now.
00:01:41 Robert
And what you’re thinking about that subject for you?
00:01:44 Robert
Or for someone you love.
00:01:48 Robert
And think about that with what we’re about to read from Jesus.
00:01:51 Robert
So this is what the word of the.
00:01:52 Robert
Lord says
00:01:54 Robert
Just then, his disciples return.
00:01:56 Robert
Now I’m gonna before we go any further, and I typically don’t do this, but I I want to set this up.
00:02:02 Robert
But just then.
00:02:04 Robert
The portion before that.
00:02:07 Robert
Was the Samaritan woman in the well?
00:02:09 Robert
If you remember that story, Jesus is walking through Samaria, a land that a good Jew would avoid
because they’re this is not a term we would typically use, but they’re.
00:02:19 Robert
They’re **** ******.
00:02:19 Robert
They’re not Jewish, they’re not Gentile.
00:02:22 Robert
They’re **** .
00:02:24 Robert
Right, and that’s truthfully, that’s the way the ancient easterners viewed them.
00:02:28 Robert
Ancient Eastern Jews were, like you, don’t go through some area, and Jesus went through some area
and not only did he go to some area, but he talked with a Samaritan and not only did he talk with a
Samaritan, but he talked with a Samaritan woman.
00:02:41 Robert
This was something that a good Jewish man would not do.
00:02:44 Robert
And Jesus did.
00:02:46 Robert
Shocked her so much that she was like how can you talk to me?
00:02:50 Robert
You’re Jewish and I’m a Samaritan woman.
00:02:52 Robert
I mean it literally shocked her so much she asked him.
00:02:56 Robert
And he begins to tell her about how he has life to offer to her, and she’s changed by it so much that she
runs off to tell her community.
00:03:06 Robert
She gets so excited about this ohh my gosh Oh my gosh Oh my gosh, she runs back.
00:03:12 Robert
That’s what happened right here.
00:03:14 Robert
So right before this, his disciples were gone.
00:03:17 Robert
That story happens before this.
00:03:19 Robert
Now we’re talking.
00:03:20 Robert
Just then his disciples returned and were surprised to find him talking with a woman, but no one asked
what do you want or why are you talking with her, then leaving her water jar.
00:03:30 Robert
The woman went back to town.
00:03:32 Robert
And said to the people, come see a man who told me everything I ever did.
00:03:37 Robert
Could this be the Messiah?
00:03:40 Robert
They came out of town and made their way toward him.
00:03:44 Robert
Meanwhile his disciples urged him, Rabbi eat something.
00:03:49 Robert
But he said to them, I have food to eat, that you know nothing about.
00:03:53 Robert
Then his disciple said to each other, could someone have brought him food?
00:03:57 Robert
My food said Jesus is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work.
00:04:04 Robert
Don’t you have a saying it’s still four months until harvest?
00:04:08 Robert
Tell you open your eyes and look at the fields they are ripe for.
00:04:13 Robert
Harvest even now the one who reaps draws a wage and harvest a crop for eternal life so that the sower
and the Reaper may be glad together.
00:04:22 Robert
Thus the saying 1 sows and another reaps is true.
00:04:27 Robert
I sent you to reap what you have not.
00:04:29 Robert
Worked for others.
00:04:30 Robert
Have done the.
00:04:31 Robert
Hard work and you.
00:04:32 Robert
Have reaped the benefits of their labor. Many of the Samaritans from that town believed in him because
of the woman’s testimony.
00:04:40 Robert
He told me everything I ever did, so when the Samaritans came to him, they urged him to stay with
them and he stayed two days and because of his words, many more became believers.
00:04:54 Robert
Now I want you to think about whoops.
00:04:55 Robert
Oh, they said to the woman we no longer believe just because of what you said.
00:05:00 Robert
Now we have heard for ourselves and we know that this man really is the savior of the world.
00:05:06 Robert
I want you to think for just a second.
00:05:09 Robert
Now in sports psychology there’s this term called flow and you can debate whether or not it actually
exists.
00:05:16 Robert
A lot of psychologists would say it doesn’t exist, and some would say it does flow.
00:05:21 Robert
Is this mindset where you get into something so well that it just kind of becomes natural and easy to
you?
00:05:28 Robert
Quite often talked about with basketball where a basketball player, I think of Steph Curry who just
seems to reach a point where he can’t miss a shot.
00:05:35 Robert
If you’ve ever watched Steph Curry ever play, he’s he’s playing.
00:05:39 Robert
He’s doing well.
00:05:40 Robert
He’s doing, and then he reaches this point where it just seems like he could just throw the ball up.
00:05:45 Robert
In any method.
00:05:48 Robert
And it goes in the basket.
00:05:50 Robert
Wait, you can watch shots on YouTube, just incredible shots from him.
00:05:55 Robert
And he’ll talk about.
00:05:56 Robert
He just reaches his point.
00:05:57 Robert
Where it seems like the basket gets bigger.
00:06:01 Robert
Now think about in your own life, things not so much where you just do things better, but things where
you just get.
00:06:06 Robert
So enthralled with something.
00:06:09 Robert
But you don’t care about anything else.
00:06:13 Robert
Maybe you’ve been playing music and you’ve reached a point where you’re like.
00:06:16 Robert
All I really want to do right now is work on this song.
00:06:20 Robert
Maybe you’ve been studying in school and and all the other stuff you’re like.
00:06:23 Robert
This is meaningless.
00:06:24 Robert
This is meaningless.
00:06:25 Robert
This is meaningless.
00:06:26 Robert
I know.
00:06:26 Robert
I have to know it for the test, but this is meaningless and then.
00:06:28 Robert
You see this thing and.
00:06:29 Robert
You’re like this is incredible.
00:06:33 Robert
I just want to focus on this is amazing.
00:06:37 Robert
Maybe you’re baking.
00:06:40 Robert
And you just get enamored with us and all you want to do is focus on this more.
00:06:49 Robert
I believe what we just read is Jesus hitting this point of well.
00:06:53 Robert
What people when I was growing up would have said is you know what floats your boat. We just saw
what what floated Jesus’s boat where he gets so excited that he says.
00:07:05 Robert
I have food to eat that you know nothing about what he’s literally saying.
00:07:09 Robert
Here is what just happened to me, has filled me up and I’m not even concerned about eating right now.
00:07:14 Robert
He goes from I need food.
00:07:16 Robert
I need something to drink, which is literally what he was asking the the woman for.
00:07:20 Robert
Give me something to drink 2 saying instead.
00:07:24 Robert
I’m satisfied and I just wanna focus on this.
00:07:29 Robert
I just want to spend more time on this.
00:07:34 Robert
He even elaborates a little bit further with the disciples, and I love the disciples.
00:07:38 Robert
OK, they’re so wonderful.
00:07:40 Robert
And and I, I’m just going to assume this was Peter.
00:07:42 Robert
That said, this I don’t remember if any of the other gospel say who said this, but I love Peter because
Peter just says what everybody else is thinking quite often and and they just they, the disciple said.
00:07:52 Robert
Did somebody else give him food and he has to explain he’s like.
00:07:56 Robert
My food is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work.
00:08:00 Robert
I think what we’re seeing here is Jesus.
00:08:03 Robert
Just has this encounter.
00:08:05 Robert
And he reaches that point that we were talking about earlier.
00:08:08 Robert
That point where you look at your loved one and you’re like, please don’t get them on this subject
because they’ll never shut up.
00:08:15 Robert
Please don’t get Robert talking about the economic theory of signaling because he’s just going to go on
and on and on about how everything we do ultimately is about signaling that we belong to one tribe.
00:08:25 Robert
And not to another.
00:08:27 Robert
And we do that in the way we dress.
00:08:28 Robert
And we do that in the Bibles that we carry.
00:08:31 Robert
We do that in everything.
00:08:32 Robert
Don’t get him on that subject and you’re laughing because you’re like.
00:08:35 Robert
Please don’t get on that subject, Robert, but you.
00:08:37 Robert
Have your subject too.
00:08:40 Robert
And we just saw what Jesus is subject was.
00:08:45 Robert
Now, this whole scripture that we read beforehand, what was it pointing back to?
00:08:50 Robert
What was the experience that happened beforehand?
00:08:59 Robert
A woman.
00:09:01 Robert
Who, according to social standards, he should have thought was less than?
00:09:07 Robert
Because of her nationality.
00:09:10 Robert
Because of her gender.
00:09:13 Robert
And there are hints within the text.
00:09:15 Robert
The text does not point length that say this, but there are hints within the text that even in the
demographics she belonged to, she was considered less than and.
00:09:23 Robert
And that hint is one that if you know the culture at the time and and the way things would have been
done, you know that her coming out at noon to get water.
00:09:33 Robert
Probably means that she was trying to avoid other people.
00:09:38 Robert
Now this is that’s some conjecture on our part.
00:09:40 Robert
OK, the scripture points it out, but it doesn’t say and she did this to avoid other people.
00:09:44 Robert
But what we know is she had many husbands beforehand and Jesus even says the man that she is with
right now is not her husband.
00:09:50 Robert
She was probably considered a loose woman.
00:09:53 Robert
That doesn’t mean she was loose.
00:09:54 Robert
It could have been the social circumstances she was in forced her in this.
00:09:58 Robert
But we can make some conjecture that in even in her society she was considered marginalized and less
than.
00:10:07 Robert
Jesus just spent time talking with someone.
00:10:11 Robert
Who everyone else considered the person to be avoided?
00:10:18 Robert
And he gets so excited about it.
00:10:21 Robert
He gets so excited not just about talking to her, but about letting her know you are loved and you were
received in grace.
00:10:28 Robert
I know exactly who you are.
00:10:31 Robert
I know all that you have done, both good and bad and I choose you.
00:10:36 Robert
And I want to give you this water of life because you are mine and he gets so excited about it that he’s
like I don’t need to eat.
00:10:49 Robert
This is what floats his boat.
00:10:51 Robert
This is what he gets really, really excited about.
00:10:59 Robert
I I’m I’m convinced.
00:11:03 Robert
That that Christianity is ultimately about us knowing what our purpose in life is.
00:11:09 Robert
That doesn’t mean it’s not about us receiving forgiveness of sins, it is.
00:11:15 Robert
It doesn’t mean that it’s not about us glorifying God, it is, but that ultimately our purpose is we were
created.
00:11:23 Robert
In the image of God, to have a relationship with God.
00:11:31 Robert
And when we know our purpose, it helps us to live.
00:11:35 Robert
OK for all the people who have been involved in business, this is about to be old hat for you because
about.
00:11:41 Robert
00:11:44 Robert
A gentleman named Simon Siddick, who some of you may have heard of.
00:11:47 Robert
He did a Ted talk and it was, it was.
00:11:49 Robert
Find your why and it made.
00:11:54 Robert
All the circles OK.
00:11:55 Robert
I mean all the circles like even in my my chaplain training it made all the circle and it was great and he
talked about companies.
00:12:03 Robert
That were producing products and the difference between those who said this is what we are all about,
and we’re going to produce products that are of what we’re all about versus companies that just said,
hey, we’re just trying to produce a product.
00:12:15 Robert
That somebody will buy.
00:12:17 Robert
And his whole point was to find your why he used Apple as an example, Apple was we want to and I
don’t remember their exact why.
00:12:27 Robert
But it was we want to produce products that change the way people view things.
00:12:33 Robert
And so they shaped those products towards that.
00:12:38 Robert
It went all through it and and The thing is, is that he didn’t just come up with that from business.
00:12:44 Robert
He came up with that from a Christian philosopher named Saran Kirkegaard.
00:12:49 Robert
It’s a fun, fun word.
00:12:50 Robert
OK, anytime you can throw out a name like that, you just seem smarter, even if.
00:12:55 Robert
You’re not Sauron, Kirkegaard said, and you can just make up anything else after that, because nobody
else will know.
00:13:03 Robert
But Kierkegaard has a book that is titled Purity of Heart is to will.
00:13:09 Robert
The one thing.
00:13:13 Robert
This whole point was this.
00:13:15 Robert
When you know what’s most important in your life?
00:13:21 Robert
Everything else falls into line underneath it.
00:13:26 Robert
And that’s the problem.
00:13:26 Robert
So often we have multiple things that we’re like.
00:13:29 Robert
I have priorities rather than I have a priority.
00:13:34 Robert
So I have like 10 things that are really important to me.
00:13:38 Robert
But I don’t have any one thing that is the defining characteristic of my life.
00:13:42 Robert
And Simon Said’s whole point was find out what that one thing is.
00:13:49 Robert
And when you find out what that one thing is, everything else can fall in line underneath it.
00:13:53 Robert
It enables you to say yes to some things and no to some things, and you no longer have to say yes and
no based off whether or not they are good.
00:14:02 Robert
So if if my one thing and I I’m going to get down to, I believe Jesus should be our one thing we’re gonna
talk about that.
00:14:08 Robert
But let’s say if my one thing is I want to be the best parent I can be, it means I can say no to some things
that are really good.
00:14:14 Robert
They just don’t help me to be the best parent I can be and that was Simon Senik’s whole point that was
Sharon character. Guard’s whole point was find out what your one.
00:14:23 Robert
The thing is.
00:14:27 Robert
And what did Jesus get excited about?
00:14:31 Robert
He got excited about following the will of God and the will of God was that this marginalized forsaken
woman would know that she was loved and a child of God.
00:14:45 Robert
In the midst.
00:14:47 Robert
Of how other people were treating her in the midst of her own choices, some of which may have been
sinful.
00:14:55 Robert
That she was claimed by God and Jesus got so excited about that he was like I have food you don’t know
about.
00:15:06 Robert
Following the will of the father is is my food.
00:15:13 Robert
This is not the first time he’s used this as an example of food in the sense of of choosing God.
00:15:19 Robert
‘s will if you remember in the temptations not not the band but in the temptations that Jesus went
through.
00:15:26 Robert
Satan offers him food, which is a good thing, and Jesus responds with it is written man shall not live on
bread.
00:15:33 Robert
Alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.
00:15:36 Robert
He uses this to counteract Satan.
00:15:39 Robert
You’re saying eat right now.
00:15:40 Robert
What I’m saying is it’s more important for me to follow God.
00:15:46 Robert
Following that will shapes his life if you remember the garden of Yosemite, Jesus goes there and rightly
prays and says Father let this cup pass.
00:15:56 Robert
I don’t want to go through this.
00:15:59 Robert
And he ends that prayer with.
00:16:02 Robert
Father, if you were willing to take this cup for me yet not my will, but yours be done.
00:16:12 Robert
We’re at the woman on the.
00:16:13 Robert
Well, and Jesus is so.
00:16:15 Robert
Excited because his entire purpose is to follow the will of the father and the will of the father.
00:16:21 Robert
Is that the?
00:16:21 Robert
Lost might be found. People having 100 sheep and one sheep getting lost and the shepherd leaving the
other 99 and going to find the wine. And then.
00:16:32 Robert
Celebrating about that.
00:16:33 Robert
This is why Jesus tells parables about a woman who loses a coin and sweeps the entire house to find
that coin.
00:16:41 Robert
And when she finds that coin, she celebrates.
00:16:44 Robert
I like to think probably spending more money than the coin was worth just to find that.
00:16:51 Robert
And the reason I bring this up is because so often we think Jesus celebrates the one time when we were
fallen, he finds us.
00:16:59 Robert
And then after that it’s all on us to not never fall down again.
00:17:03 Robert
And the reality is he.
00:17:05 Robert
Knows who we are.
00:17:09 Robert
He knows that Robert Terrell does not get it right and messes.
00:17:13 Robert
Not in small ways like saying the wrong date for the Super Bowl and small group, but in big ways where I
say Jesus is my Lord and then I live in ways that do not reflect that and Jesus gets it cited when I realize
through the conviction of the Holy Spirit, I am desperate and in need of him and he doesn’t hide from
me.
00:17:33 Robert
He claims me and he celebrates over me.
00:17:37 Robert
We’re really OK with people being.
00:17:39 Robert
In a fallen state once.
00:17:41 Robert
But then we like to think.
00:17:43 Robert
Then you become a St.
00:17:44 Robert
and never fall again and the reality is of Scripture.
00:17:47 Robert
It’s shown again and again and again.
00:17:49 Robert
The followers of Jesus Fail and Jesus claims them.
00:17:54 Robert
Look at Peter the rock.
00:17:59 Robert
The rock
00:18:02 Robert
Is the least rock like individual there is?
00:18:06 Robert
And a pastor that did not have a lot of good things that he did, but he had one saying that I loved, and
that was that.
00:18:12 Robert
Peter was the.
00:18:12 Robert
Barney Fife, of the of the New Testament and most of you are too young to know who that is.
00:18:17 Robert
Thank you Mariah for doing that face.
00:18:20 Robert
Andy Griffith show.
00:18:21 Robert
Barney Fife is the guy who opens his mouth and inserts his foot at all times.
00:18:26 Robert
He’s a deputy who can only be trusted when one bullet that can never be allowed in his gun.
00:18:31 Robert
That’s who Peter is.
00:18:34
I have a.
00:18:36
Photo for that.
00:18:37 Robert
It’s cause I just brought it up.
00:18:38 Robert
It was not a part of if you look at my transcript for the sermon, it was not a part.
00:18:42 Robert
I just brought it up.
00:18:46 Robert
That’s what floats his boat.
00:18:54 Robert
I cannot stress it enough.
00:19:00 Robert
And the Samaritan woman gets so excited.
00:19:05 Robert
I just picture and this is not scripture.
00:19:07 Robert
This is me picturing OK.
00:19:10 Robert
But the way I read the scripture there, she gets so excited about what Jesus has just done for her that
she just goes.
00:19:16 Robert
I have to tell everybody and just runs away from him.
00:19:18 Robert
At that point, it’s just like.
00:19:19 Speaker 2
You’re the.
00:19:20 Robert
Greatest and just.
00:19:22 Robert
Goes the woman who is excluded.
00:19:29 Robert
It’s excluded because she was a woman.
00:19:31 Robert
It’s excluded because she was Samaritan and most likely again I cannot stress enough.
00:19:35 Robert
I don’t ever want to put words in scriptures mouth.
00:19:38 Robert
I think Scripture is saying this, but it is conjecture was most likely excluded by the Samaritans.
00:19:46 Robert
Goes from a person who has to come to the well.
00:19:50 Robert
At noon time, where there when others will not be there and she runs and becomes one of the first
evangelist.
00:19:56 Robert
One of the first people to proclaim the good news and what is the good news?
00:19:59 Robert
The good news is that God loves to redeem the lost God, loves to claim the sheep that has fallen aside.
00:20:08 Robert
God loves to save us from our sins.
00:20:13 Robert
She preaches in such a way she preaches in such a way that the village comes to know Jesus.
00:20:21 Robert
Here this is what it says. Many of the Samaritans from that town believed in him because of the
woman’s testimony. He told me everything I ever did.
00:20:32 Robert
Think of that.
00:20:34 Robert
He told me everything I ever did.
00:20:37 Robert
I want you to think for just a few minutes.
00:20:39 Robert
On what you’ve done over the past.
00:20:45 Robert
Now there’s some that you would love for people to know about.
00:20:49 Robert
I did this and this was wonderful.
00:20:53 Robert
There’s some that you would not want anybody to know about.
00:21:02 Robert
And she’s excited about the fact that he knows everything about her.
00:21:07 Robert
Her victories and her failures.
00:21:11 Robert
Where she did the moral right and she did the moral wrong.
00:21:17 Robert
He told me everything I ever did and she’s excited about the fact that he knows her.
00:21:23 Robert
Yes, ma’am Mariah.
00:21:28 Robert
Yeah, and what happened instead?
00:21:31 Robert
Yeah, and not only does he still love her, not only does he talk to her.
00:21:34 Robert
If you notice a little small line there, he stays with them.
00:21:37 Robert
For two days.
00:21:40 Robert
He literally changes his plans because of what just happened.
00:21:44 Robert
He was going through some area.
00:21:46 Robert
The whole purpose was to get from Galilee to Judea.
00:21:49 Robert
He was going through there as a good ancient eastern Jew.
00:21:51 Robert
He should have gone as fast as possible if he had to go through there at all.
00:21:54 Robert
And what happens is he has this conversation with a woman that many would consider lost.
00:22:00 Robert
And she has found, and he’s so excited about it.
00:22:02 Robert
Not only does he not eat now, he’s staying.
00:22:07 Robert
Because he knew everything about him.
00:22:10 Robert
And he loved him.
00:22:16 Robert
They use a phrase that is light to us, would not have been light at the time they use a phrase.
00:22:22 Robert
This is this.
00:22:23 Robert
It is the savior of the world.
00:22:27 Robert
They probably knew at the time that the Caesar of Rome, Caesar Augustus, was beginning to use this
phrase for himself.
00:22:36 Robert
The most powerful person in the world was using this phrase of himself.
00:22:43 Robert
And they look at Jesus, the one who all he did was know who they were.
00:22:46 Robert
And love him.
00:22:48 Robert
And they say he’s the savior.
00:22:53 Robert
Because I’m convinced what we need in this world is not political right, not political power.
00:22:58 Robert
What we need in this world is someone to know who we are and to.
00:23:01 Robert
Love us.
00:23:06 Robert
To know what lifts us up to what gets us down.
00:23:09 Robert
To know our failures.
00:23:10 Robert
To know our victories.
00:23:11 Robert
And to love us.
00:23:17 Robert
And the beauty is, I think this passage is describing that’s what gets Jesus excited.
00:23:27 Robert
So what does this mean for us?
00:23:30 Robert
What is our why based off this?
00:23:36 Robert
The easy answer is to say Jesus.
00:23:38 Robert
Is our why?
00:23:41 Robert
The thing is, is that sometimes the easy answers are right.
00:23:44 Robert
But it means we have to figure out what that means.
00:23:48 Robert
For Jesus to be our, why?
00:23:49 Robert
What does that mean?
00:23:52 Robert
I think it means we need to love the things he loves.
00:23:57 Robert
What does he love?
00:23:57 Robert
Well, he loves us.
00:24:02 Robert
He loves the fallen around us.
00:24:06 Robert
He loves us when we’ve fallen.
00:24:09 Robert
We need to love the things that Jesus loves and act in that, and that goes against everything else that’s
in the world because in the world you you hang out with those.
00:24:18 Robert
That are like you.
00:24:23 Robert
I’m smiling because what’s running through my mind is that’s the whole point of economic signaling.
00:24:29 Robert
So what is your why?
00:24:33 Robert
Scripture says that we should have no other gods before the Lord, and that why is what is most
important in your life that shapes everything else.
00:24:49 Robert
In religion we would call that your God.
00:24:55 Robert
What is your why?
00:24:58 Robert
If your why is perfection and for a lot of people it is OK, I have to succeed at this.
00:25:06 Robert
Pam would tell you this week I struggled with well that trip to Honduras.
00:25:09 Robert
I struggled cause I felt like I’d failed.
00:25:13 Robert
It was a big struggle for me.
00:25:16 Robert
I felt like I had failed and I’d let down people that needed me not to let them down.
00:25:21 Robert
Now, intellectually, I knew that wasn’t the case.
00:25:25 Robert
But emotionally.
00:25:28 Robert
It was crushing me.
00:25:31 Robert
If my, why is to succeed and to help people all the time?
00:25:35 Robert
Then I’m a pretty terrible Robert this week.
00:25:41 Robert
It’s OK though, because my why is Jesus and I know that he loves me.
00:25:46 Robert
I just have to remind myself of that a lot.
00:25:50 Robert
What is your why?
00:25:55 Robert
And how is it shaping your life?
00:25:59 Robert
So before I end.
00:26:03 Robert
Does anybody have anything else to add?
00:26:11 Robert
OK.
00:26:13 Robert
Here’s what I would encourage.
00:26:14 Robert
Us to do this week.
00:26:17 Robert
Oops, I think I went the wrong direction.
00:26:18 Robert
It’s the same thing.
00:26:21 Robert
I just had a silhouette.
00:26:22 Robert
There we go.
00:26:26 Robert
This week
00:26:28 Robert
I I like to to do a lot of the same simple things all the time. I pray a prayer called the Prayer of Saint
Patrick’s a lot. A whole lot. I pray the Lord’s prayer a whole lot.
00:26:41 Robert
Because I need these reminders right now, I’m just going through the Psalms.
00:26:44 Robert
I will go through the Psalms all year and if you read the Psalms consistently, what you begin to realize is
they’re almost all the same.
00:26:51 Robert
There’s like 3 different versions of them and then the same thing over and over again.
00:26:56 Robert
I need you.
00:26:58 Robert
Thank you for helping me.
00:27:00 Robert
Would you destroy somebody else?
00:27:01 Robert
For me, those are basically the.
00:27:02 Robert
3 forms of the Psalms.
00:27:06 Robert
Just repeat it over and over and over again.
00:27:11 Robert
This week I would encourage you.
00:27:14 Robert
To go.
00:27:15 Robert
Jesus loves to find the lost.
00:27:19 Robert
And to realize when that’s you.
00:27:22 Robert
And to realize when that’s others around you.
00:27:26 Robert
And ask how that shapes your week.
00:27:30 Robert
How does it cause you to look at yourself?
00:27:34 Robert
When you know Jesus knows everything.
00:27:35 Robert
You ever did good and bad?
00:27:40 Robert
How does it cause you to look at others around you?
00:27:46 Robert
And is there anything that you’re doing in your life that is not reflecting that?
00:27:52 Robert
That could be not loving yourself.
00:27:56 Robert
That could be not forgiving an enemy.
00:27:59 Robert
It could be a lot of things.
00:28:01 Robert
But I would encourage you to spend that week realizing what Jesus’s why is.
00:28:08 Robert
And trying to make sure what yours is.
00:28:11 Robert
Simon Sinek may have done it for business, but there is still a lot of truth there because again, he stole it
from a Christian Danish philosopher.
00:28:20 Robert
Who was talking about Jesus?
00:28:23 Robert
Would you join with me in our closing prayer, please?
00:28:30 Speaker 2
Praise God from whom all blessings, flow.
00:28:38 Speaker 2
Praise him.
00:28:40 Speaker 2
All creatures here below praise him.
00:28:49 Speaker 2
Above ye heavenly ho.
00:28:55 Speaker 2
Praise, Father, son and Holy Ghost.
00:29:03 Speaker 2
Ah, Amen.
00:29:10 Robert
Go in the name of the one who gets so excited that he does.
00:29:13 Robert
Not eat to eat.
00:29:14 Robert
He gets that excited over the loss being found.
00:29:18 Robert
He gets that excited about us being found.
00:29:21 Robert
Have a great week, OK for your own video.
00:29:23 Robert
Thank you for joining us today.
